Keith Barnes is a professional, commercial, portrait, event, academic/education and product photographer based in Oxford. Having started the Photographers Workshop in 1982 as a darkroom and studio hire centre Keith has seen his photography and business move with the times and technology. Commercial photography is a highly developed skill capturing you, your personnel and your products in a desirable light to show off your image, sales message and vision.Whether you are looking to improve the images in your college prospectus or add high resolution photos to an academic magazine, I can help you.
I am fortunate, I have spent my whole life pursuing my passion. Not many people can say that even at the age of 12 they were already engaged with an activity that would be their life's interest but also their profession. In the last 20 years I have seen my business as a photographer change and mutate in ways I might never have thought possible.
Pictures of people would seem to be an easy thing, but you may have noticed getting really good portrait photographs is much more difficult than just pointing a camera at a subject. I have spent decades making portraits, business portraits, profile portraits, graduation portraits, PR portraits, family portraits and more recently social media portraits and dating website portraits. They are all different, one size does not fit all. The one thing that has to define a really good portrait photographer is that they like people.

Keith took photographs of a VIP event in the Department of Biochemistry, photos are being used on our website and also on the Lister Institute website and social media. The photos were perfect, exactly what we wanted, they captured the event perfectly. Keith was so accommodating to our requirements and nothing was too much trouble. I would use his services again with no hesitation and would recommend him 100%

We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience shooting professional portraits with Keith; as he kept us at ease and encouraged us to express a range of positive emotions and poses. We loved so many photos, it was difficult selecting our favourites. Thank you and highly recommended.

We were really pleased with the incredibly professional but friendly service that Keith provided for a family shoot at our sons Oxford college prior to his graduation ceremony. Organisation and communication prior to and at the the photo session were superb, and the photos we received by the next working day were of an excellent quality. Keith accommodated all of our requirements whilst bringing his own creative ideas and we would highly recommend him!

Keith has been our festival photographer twice now, and both times we've been very happy with the results. He manages to capture the atmosphere of the event, as well as being very good at photographing those happy little interactions between attendees - the smiles, the laughter etc. He's also just a nice friendly person, and very easy to work with. Would definitely recommend him.

Fantastic! I worked with Keith on some portrait shots for both business use and use within a more informal setting. The shoot was perfect he fully understood the brief, made me feel immediately relaxed, gave me tips on how to stand, hold my hands etc, knew the best locations in town, and the shots (which I got the next day) are perfect. Thank you Keith this was much more enjoyable than I was expecting and the shots are excellent and most professional. I look forward to working with you again.

Brilliant quality photos. I needed a good passport photo, and Keith took one (a set) that not only has always been accepted for various passport & ID applications, but also is a complimentary photo of me: very rare for a passport photo! Definitely worth the money in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this course and it has inspired me to go out and practice much more! I've also got more confident approaching strangers and to try different things. The course was very easy to follow and it was also interesting meeting the other students and seeing their different styles develop, and also learn from them. Thanks again!

I never particularly wanted to do Portrait Photography, until my wife bought me a 4 week course as a Christmas present. I thoroughly enjoyed every session, and found the course to be both engaging and comprehensive. Thank you Keith, you're a great tutor, and you inspired me beyond my expectations.

I signed up for the 4 week Lightroom course with Keith and it was a great investment! If you want to take your photos to the next level and want to understand how to use Lightroom, this is the course for you. Keith breaks down every module into sections and makes it very easy for one to understand. He also provides you with lots of resources that you can reference to when you need it. Highly recommend this course.

Keith was fantastic. I had a one to one training session. I am reasonably experienced at photographer however I wanted to take my pictures to the next level. I learnt so much in our session. He gave his all during our session and I benefited from his passion and experience. I have been inspired and energised now to implement all of the things that I have learnt.

It has already had a huge impact on the quality of my photos and has given me a clear direction of how to continue to improve and the many aspects I need to consider. I would highly recommend anyone wishing to develop their skills. Thank you Keith.

Thoroughly enjoyable and wonderfully informative day at the Understanding your DSLR course; Keith is a great teacher, giving a lot of detailed information and advice in a clear, concise and memorable way, and more than happy to answer all our questions. The practical sessions outside were a valuable opportunity to try out the theory we had just learned.

I now feel much more confident about using the key controls on my camera, choosing the settings and trying out new techniques. Definitely a day very well spent with my camera!

I needed some photographs for a book jacket and for my website. Keith produced some excellent high-quality images from a session in his studio and on location in the centre of Oxford. I am highly delighted with the results. I was somewhat anxious about being in front of the camera but i actually rather enjoyed it. It's because Keith is so patient and calm. He's a true professional and certainly knows how to get the best out of people. Many thanks again.

Keith's photographs of our event were very professional and of excellent quality. As per the brief, he covered a range of different scenarios from group work to lecture theatre images, and did a great job co-ordinating our rather large group shot. Thanks for being so personable too which is important at a busy event. Very professional approach.

I attended Keith's one day introduction to using an SLR. I thought the course was excellent. We went through all the basics at a good pace and had an opportunity to put some of the lessons into practice. Keith also covered some basic principles of photography that i hope to put into practice. I am confident that Keith has provided the break through that I needed. Keith also provided a very clear summary of the sessions and follow up links to relevant blogs etc. The session exceeded my expectations

We needed some portrait photos for a website and stationery. Really pleased with both the experience and the results. I was very impressed at the amount of expertise applied, and it was well worth the cost.

It's the last race in Europe this weekend using our new motorhome and the photos, and we are still getting so many lovely comments so thank you again. Hopefully, we can use your talents again in the future.

Excellent photographer and lovely to work with – friendly, amenable, professional, easy-going, unobtrusive, and gets on with the job with no fuss – just what one wants and needs of a professional photographer.

You put me at my ease (as much as I think was possible under the circumstances) and your skill and quiet authority gave me (justifiable) confidence in your skills. Once again thank you very much; these photos are going to be immensely useful and it is particularly nice to have a respectable and dignified photograph. Frankly I don’t know why I didn’t do this years ago.
