Portraits by Hart were established back in 1958 and are now one of the longest established family run portrait studios in the UK. We have been photographing families and their children for over 52 years. In fact, we are now creating portraits for the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the very first customers who came to us way back in the beginning.We were one of the very first studios in the country to produce canvas wall portraits back in the 1970's, having worked closely with Ademco, one of the pioneers of the process.
As a studio, we have been privileged to win many awards throughout the years, which include Kodak Awards, Kodak Gold Awards, Fuji Merit Awards and more. During the last three years alone we have been awarded over 40 SWPP Gold Awards and SWPP UK Digital Art Photographer of the Year.
We concentrate on studio portraiture of families, large family groups, children, couples, individuals and pets. Our camera room can easily accommodate a family group of up to twenty five people, even more if small children are involved.
All finishing work is carried out on the premises, this includes: printing, canvas wraps, retouching and digital art, mount cutting and we even make our own picture frames. This means we have total control over quality of our portraits from start to finish. We can also produce a finished framed portrait very quickie, if required.
Another major part of the business is old photograph copy and restoration. Restoring photographs is nothing new to us either; we've been doing this for over 40 years, long before the digital age. However, we can now achieve amazing results, never before thought possible, with the aid of all the latest technologies.

The beginnings of Portraits by Hart were established back in 1958 by William & Mavis Hart. William was first introduced to photography while at school. One day a teacher entered the class room a said " if anyone is interested in having a go at photography raise your hand". William raised his hand, he never knew why as he'd had no real interest in photography previously.

We gave our very precious old family photographs to "Portraits by Hart" to try and restore. Some were in tatters. They did THE MOST AMAZING job which nearly made me cry when I saw the photos come to life! They were "touched up" so carefully and looked like they were taken yesterday. The restored photos took my breath away. Customer service and attention to detail was perfect. I could not have been happier. Not the cheapest on the market but the work they produced was priceless to our family!

My wife found an old family photo that had been stored in her parents loft and had become very badly damaged. We thought it was so bad - as we took it out the frame it was literally falling apart - it would be beyond salvaging but because it was of her Great Grandparents on their wedding day she could not bear to throw it out without checking. We are so pleased that we took it to Portraits by Hart.
The finished result was beyond our expectations and the detail they were able to bring out of the original was fantastic. A little part of our family history has been returned to us better than new and we can't say thank you enough.

I have recently acquired some old family photos following a bereavement in the family. Some photos are in a sorrowful state and delicate condition. Having seen the 'Portraits by Hart' web page, I made enquires not knowing if it was possible to restore the photos. My question was answered with confidence and within 10 days I had a phone call to say they were ready to collect.
The restoration work was amazing, the attention to detail was faultless. I would never thought it possible, had I not seen it with my own eyes.
